My first week and Oahu!

Hi Everybody! We still don't have internet working on the ship yet so I'll try to update as often as possible!

WOW i don't even know where to start... ok well we got our bunking on day one. I'll try to put up pictures as soon as possible.  They stack 3 high and since i'm young and agile, I get the top. So I get to climb up and down everyday.  So far, so good. No bodily harm has happened yet. BUT when I lay on my stomach, my book touches the ceiling, so its a close fit.  I definitely bump my head before and after getting into and out of bed. I don't expect that to change any time soon. but i'm comfortable and happy!

Speaking of happy- everyone on the ship is so friendly! No matter what station and rank the military people are, everyone is so respectful and kind. I am so impressed with the "comradery" i killed the spelling i'm sure.In the real world, I try to smile and acknowledge the people i pass. what happens? IGNORED. Here...everyone holds doors for eachother, smiles and says hi. Let me just live here. i love it.

So our group of LDS charity people consists of all Nurses, PA's and other medical professions. So far we have about 15 people and by the time we get to normal size we''ll have about 30 at a time. Why was I allowed to come? i have no idea. Lucky is an understatement. I am surrounded by incredible people and am learning so much already and getting a new appreciation for nursing that I didn't have before.  I'll be able to follow/shadow them in different divisions so that's pretty exciting. One of the ladies in our group I've met so far has had one of the coolest lives I've ever heard of. I'll have to tell you some of her stories sometime later. too many, too cool to do it justice on this blog.

So here's the daily schedule :
5:45 wake up
6:30 Breakfast
7:30 Muster= meet in groups and talk about plans for the day
11:00- LUNCH
4:30- DINNER
anytime after: frolick/exploration time
10:00- Lights out

So the food here is great. Thats really actually bad news for me. I have to use a lot of self control to not eat carrot cake 3 times a day. Don't worry guys, I'm using the gyms. I won't be coming back the size of navy man.

OK BIG NEWSSSSSSS! I finally discovered what I'll be doing for the next 4 months- i'll be working in the pediatrics department as a CNA! YES! I might be able to go out to orphanages but thats in the works.

Hawaii- was an adventure but I don't want this blog to be pages long. Suffice it to say, I explored Waikiki which was wonderful.

So I'm making friends on the boat.  The Navy guys are really nice, and I met one of the people who works in the Bridge- aka steering place of the ship. He let me and Shari (the Team Lead of LDS charities) have a tour. tomorrow, I get to go STEER the boat. that pretty much means looking at a computer, but hey I'LL the captain for about 2 seconds. pretty exciting.

I miss you all and hope summer is going well!  I can't wait to hear how you all are doing.
